What to Do if Messages Are Not Loading Correctly

If you are experiencing issues where your messages are not loading, it could be linked to browser compatibility—particularly if you’re using the Island Enterprise Browser, or in rare cases, Chrome via an Island-managed environment.
Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve it quickly.

🚨 The Issue

 

  • Users accessing Canvas via the Island Enterprise Browser reported that messages did not load properly.

  • Similar issues have occasionally been seen when using Chrome on the Island enterprise setup.

  • Clearing cache and cookies did not resolve the problem when using Island.

The Resolution

 

  • Switch to Mozilla Firefox — Canvas works seamlessly with Firefox.

  • A user accessing through Island was able to install Firefox and manage enquiries immediately after switching browsers.

📋 Key Technical Note (For IT Teams if Needed)

 

Canvas uses TalkJS for in-app messaging.
For TalkJS to function properly, the browser must allow:

  • HTTP requests to talkjs.com and its subdomains (e.g., app.talkjs.com, api.talkjs.com)

  • WebSocket connections

If the Island browser blocks these connections, Canvas messaging will not function reliably.
💡 You can ask Island support directly by opening a support ticket to whitelist these connections.

🔄 Alternative Temporary Workarounds

If switching browsers is not immediately possible:

  1. Use Email Only:

    • You can still respond to enquiries by replying directly to the original enquiry email.

    • If you’re logged out, you will continue to receive client replies by email — no need to log into the dashboard.

  2. Mobile Access:

    • Log into your Canvas Venue account on your mobile phone using a standard browser (not Island) for full functionality.
