How the Search Algorithm Works on Canvas to Ensure Equal Visibility for All Venues
If your venue isn’t appearing in search results, don’t worry! The way our search system works ensures all venues get equal visibility over time. This guide explains how the search logic works and what you can do to make sure your venue is optimised for discovery.
1. How the Search Logic Works
Canvas uses a fair and randomised system to ensure every venue gets equal exposure.
🔹 Search results are dynamic—venues rotate within searches to give everyone a chance to be seen.
🔹 Results are based on the search criteria set by the user, including:
- Location (e.g., Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, or Central London).
- Event type (e.g., corporate events, private dining, weddings).
- Venue size and capacity.
📌 This means that if you search for your venue multiple times, it won’t always appear in the same place—but it is still being shown to potential clients!
2. How to Ensure Your Venue Appears in Relevant Searches
✅ Check That Your Venue's Criteria is Correct
Your venue’s visibility is determined by the location, event types, and categories you’ve selected. If your venue isn’t appearing where you expect, make sure:
🔹 Your location is accurate—if your venue is in Bethnal Green, it will appear in searches for Bethnal Green, but may rotate in broader searches like "Central London".
🔹 You’ve selected all relevant event types—if you host weddings but haven’t selected "wedding venue" as an event type, you won’t appear in those searches.
🔹 Your venue size and capacity are correctly listed—clients filtering by guest numbers need to see accurate results.
3. Understanding Rotation in Search Results
🎯 Search results are randomised within each location and event type category.
- If you search for your venue in a highly competitive area (e.g., Central London), remember that there are many other venues rotating through the same search.
- Smaller location searches (e.g., Bethnal Green) mean fewer venues in rotation, so you might see yourself more often there.
- Running the same search multiple times will show different venues each time—this is intentional to ensure fairness.
💡 Even if you don’t see your venue in your own search, it is still being seen by thousands of event planners visiting the platform every month!
4. Final Checklist to Maximise Your Visibility
✔ Double-check your selected categories, location, and event types.
✔ Run searches using realistic event criteria—broad searches like "London" will have higher competition.
✔ Remember that results rotate dynamically—your venue will appear to users searching with different filters.
